Declaration by the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on the attack in Jerusalem on 2 July

The Presidency of the European Union condemns the heinous terrorist attack in Jerusalem today in the strongest possible terms. The Presidency conveys its condolences to the families of the victims and their loved ones and expresses its sympathy and deepest solidarity to the people and Government of Israel.
This unacceptable terrorist act does harm to all Israelis and all Palestinians.
The EU Presidency calls on Israeli and Palestinian leaders to pursue their discussions, despite the violence, in order to swiftly take forward the ongoing negotiation process. Only this will pave the way to peace.
