As part of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Mrs Rachida Dati, Minister of Justice, is organising a meeting on the issue 'What future for the training of the judiciary and judicial staff in the European Union ?'

The training of judges and public prosecutors, and more generally of all players in the legal profession, is essential in the European judicial area. Based on mutual trust, and in compliance with European Union regulations, this area ensures that decisions made in one country are enforced in others.

Bringing together the European players of judicial training, Members of the European Parliament and Ministers, this meeting will aim to identify the knowledge and values leading to a high-quality justice system for citizens, by means of a genuine European judicial culture.

This conference will continue the work launched by the Cannes Justice and Home Affairs Council of 7 and 8 July, to enable the Council of Ministers of Justice of the European Union to make a deep and coherent commitment, during the French Presidency, to the improvement of training in Europe.

Journalists and media teams wishing to cover this event should apply for accreditation via the website of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union: https://medias.ue2008.fr/.

NOTE: Due to the limited facilities available, accreditations for each type of media will be limited as follows:

  • 3 people from each television channel,
  • 2 people from each radio station,
  • 2 journalists from each printed/on-line newspaper/magazine.
