Declaration by the European Presidency of the Council of the European Union on Sudan

The Presidency of the Council of the European Union condemns the new attacks by Sudanese government forces on villages held by the SLM’s Abdel Wahid El Nur in the Jebel Marra region.
These attacks are a flagrant violation of the ceasefire commitments undertaken by the Sudanese authorities.
The Presidency of the Council of the European Union is particularly concerned about the consequences of these attacks on civilians, initial accounts report numerous deaths and displaced people, who do not have access to humanitarian aid.
The Presidency of the Council of the European Union calls on the Sudanese authorities to withdraw its forces from these villages without delay in compliance with their ceasefire commitments and to abide by international humanitarian law by ensuring humanitarian workers free access to the zone.
