In Greece, European Heritage Days usually take place in the last weekend of September. This year's events took place on 26 to 28 September under the banner "Home-Like Stories".

In 2008, more than 550 visitors including 300 French and Greek primary and secondary school children visited the rooms in the Résidence de France on Friday 26 September as part of the special schools event, organised for the second year running by the French Embassy under the European Heritage Days. The Résidence de France was opened to the general public from 10:00 to 18:00 on Saturday 27 September.

It was a wonderful opportunity for youngsters to admire the Hôtel Merlin de Douai, the beautiful neoclassical residence located in the heart of Athens. School children were also given the chance to meet a diplomat and ask him questions about embassy life.

Outside of the capital, the Auberge de France in Rhodes also took part in this event for the second consecutive year.

A week prior to the main events, the French Consulate General in Thessalonika (northern Greece) and the French Institute of Thessalonika organised the first guided visit of the French Cemetary of Zeitenlik on Sunday 21 September in association with the European Heritage Days. Some thirty people attended a conference by Olga Trajanou-Deligianni, head of modern and contemporary heritage in Thessalonika.
