In a common desire to get to know our world better, historians, well-known intellectuals and and amateurs of history are to meet in Blois over four days to focus on "Europeans".

The "Encounters with History" in Blois will put "Europeans" in the spotlight during debates, conferences, a cycle of cinema projections and even historic exhibitions and cafés from 9 to 10 October next. They intend to shed light on the path taken by Europeans over centuries, through taking a historical perspective.

Over 500 speakers are expected in Blois, including Pierre Nora, Assia Djebar, Robert Muchembled, Benedetta Craveri, Sylvie Brunel, Françoise Chandernagor, Tzvetan Todorov, Carlo Ginzburg, Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, Yasmina Khadra and even Daniel Cohn-Bendit, president of this 11th annual event. Among the subjects to be addressed are "Borders: the misfortune of Europe?", "Are Turks Europeans?"and "Europe: fantasy, a necessity or a utopia?", etc.

"Encounters with History", as part of the European Cultural Season, have been honoured with inviting 27 of the most eminent historians in Europe to give 27 lectures on our common history.

These 27 lectures ("leçons d'histoire") will be given in several French cities, five of which will be held in Blois, between 22 September and 26 November.

The programme for the "Encounters with History" in Blois and the "27 lectures" is available on the site www.rdv-histoire.com.

"Encounters with History" is also holding a Book fair, which will welcome over 150 publishers and nearly 200 exhibition stands. From Friday to Sunday, Blois will host Europe's largest generalist history book fair and will draw special attention to this year's flagship publications, including history books as well as historical research, novels and comic books.

These "Encounters" are an excellent opportunity to discuss, reflect on and acquire the keys to understanding our world, enabling historians and history lovers to meet in a convivial setting, enriched by the latest findings of historical research.
