- from: 20.10.2008
- to: 24.10.2008
- In: Toulon, Marseilles
From 20 to 24 October, the Mediterranean cities of Toulon and Marseilles are hosting the first BioMarine forum, the main maritime event of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Supported by the European Commission, the BioMarine forum hopes to cover all aspects of interaction with the oceans.
For the first time, an international-scale event brings together leaders from the worlds of science, politics and industry. This forum will facilitate debate on the major challenges facing the world's oceans with a view to the sustainable development of societies. It also aims to propose a European maritime vision in the world to highlight innovative and specific solutions for the seas and oceans.
François Fillon, the French Prime Minister, will attend the forum, accompanied by José Manuel Barroso, the President of the European Commission. Also present at the opening of the forum in Toulon will be Karin Roth, the Secretary of State at the German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs, and Xavier de la Gorce, the French Secretary-General of Maritime Affairs.
