Statement by the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on the attack in Afghanistan against a patrol of the International Security and Assistance Force
- On: 21.10.2008
The Presidency of the Council of the European Union strongly condemns the attack on Monday 20 October in the province of Kunduz against a patrol of the International Security and Assistance Force, which caused the death of five Afghan children and two German soldiers. It conveys its sincerest condolences to the victims’ families and loved ones and assures the Afghan and German governments of its solidarity.
The Presidency of the Council of the European Union expresses its dismay and sadness over the death of the five Afghan children. This latest attack, a few days after the bus attack on 16 October in the Kandahar region that resulted in several dozens of civilian victims, recalls that the wanton violence in Afghanistan affects first and foremost the Afghan people themselves.
The Presidency of the Council of the European Union pays homage to the courage and dedication of the soldiers killed in the name of security, freedom and the reconstruction of Afghanistan.
