Statement by the presidency of the Council of the European Union on the attack on UNAMID soldiers in Darfur

The Presidency of the Council of the European Union condemns in the strongest terms the attack that targeted two UNAMID soldiers in northern Darfur, Sudan.
It conveys its condolences to the family of the UNAMID soldier killed during this attack as well as to the South African authorities, United Nations Secretary-General and the President of the African Union. It also expresses its solidarity with the soldier who was injured.
The Presidency gives its full support to all those who dedicate themselves to serving peace in Sudan, often in difficult conditions.
It hopes that everything will be done in order to swiftly establish the facts and those responsible for the attack.
