European meetings on historic memory

The topic, the passage from national memory to collective memory, will soon bring together the EU ministers with responsibility for war veterans.
The ministers of EU Member States with responsibility for war veterans will meet together in Mulhouse on 9 and 10 November, at the invitation of Jean-Marie Bockel, the French Minister of State for Defence and Veterans, as part of both the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the 90th anniversary of the 1918 armistice.
The ministers will meet on the battlefield of Vieil Armand (Hartmannswillerkopf) to solemnly pay tribute to the 20 000 French and German soldiers who fell on this rocky outcrop during the Great War.
For the first time, members of the delegations will meet around topics of collective memory and the passing down of memory to future generations.
At the end of these two days of work sessions, they will make a European declaration on collective memory during a press conference which will take place in Mulhouseat the Hôtel du Parc at 10:00.
