The 21st 'professional days', focusing on the European dimension of careers for professional engineers, will take place at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on 13 and 14 November 2008.
This event is organised by ANACFOC (the French national organisation of careers guidance counsellors in the national education sector) and will focus on the developments and prospects in careers for professional engineers at European level.
The aim is to examine engineers' careers in light of European policy guidelines.
The European reference framework on 'key competences for lifelong learning', as defined in the Recommendation of the European Parliament and Council in 2006, is an instrument for Member States who are encouraged to integrate these competences into their education and training strategy. Eight key competences are defined in this reference framework: communication in the mother tongue, communication in foreign languages, mathematical competence and basic competences in science and technology, digital competence, learning to learn, social and civic competences, sense of initiative and entrepreneurship, cultural awareness and expression.
The central questions discussed at this event will be:
- How can engineers' careers be successfully adapted at European level to better respond to the new demands made by the policies of the European Union? How can their skills be improved and adapted?
- How can the eight key competencies contribute to improving guidance, career paths and security for engineers?
