Organised by the Interministerial Mission for the Fight against Drugs and Drug Addiction (MILDT), this conference aims to evaluate the sums of money generated by drug trafficking and their redistibution, as well as to improve the tools and practices used to identify, seize and manage criminal assets. Three hundred people, including elected officials, policemen, customs officers, magistrates, representatives from the banking and legal sectors, and French and European experts and journalists, will be invited to take part in debates on the following topics:
- drug money in everyday life
- crime multinationals
- dirty money, clean capital: the money laundering process
- post-seizure management of criminal assets
This conference will be opened by Michele Alliot-Marie, the French Minister of the Interior, Overseas France and Territorial Communities and closed by Rachida Dati, the French Minister of Justice. At the end of the afternoon, Jacques Barrot, Vice President of the European Commission, will make public a Commission communication on the seizure of criminal assets.
At a time when the European Union is developing a new action plan on drugs, the French Presidency would like to contribute to achieving more account being taken of drug-trafficking issues. Illegal drug trafficking is still the most lucrative criminal activity today. It generates considerable sums of money, fuelling an underground economy and undermining social balances and threatening the integrity of financial systems at national, European and global levels.
