ICT 2008: The European rendezvous for research in the field of information and communication science and technologies.

The 'ICT 2008' conference is dedicated to information and communication science and technologies. It is being organised at the Centre des Congrès in Lyon, France, by the European Commission, the French Ministry for Higher Education and Research, and the French Ministry for the Economy, Industry and Employment.
ICT 2008 is a forum for debate on Europe's technological future and issues of research and government policies in information and communication technologies (ICT). The event will assemble around 5,000 digital technology specialists: researchers, scientists, captains of industry and political decision-makers. It will be opened by Luc Chatel, the French Secretary of State for Industry and Consumer Activity and government spokesman, and Viviane Reding, the European Commissioner charged with the information society and the media.
The objectives of this conference:
- to present the priorities for the European financing of ICT research and innovation in 2009 and 2010 (€2.2 billion);
- to promote the development of cooperation networks and partnerships between researchers and business companies with a view to joint projects;
- to examine the key issues in terms of government policies with sights set on stimulating innovation through the development and effective utilisation of ICT;
- to enable delegates to learn of the latest research developments in the various fields of ICT;
- to present the best PCRDT projects, the latest achievements from European research laboratories and major applications developed by European and French industry.
Also up for discussion are the major trends in ICT such as new calculation paradigms, bio and nano-ICT, photonics, cognitive robotics and ICT destined for science. An exhibition will feature almost 200 exhibitors inside 8 theme villages.
The ICT 2008 conference will be closed on 27 November by Christine Lagarde, the French Minister for the Economy, Industry and Employment, and by Valérie Pécresse, the French Minister for Higher Education and Research.
