EU-Central Asia Ministerial Conference on the rule of law, pillar of development

On 27 and 28 November the first EU-Central Asia ministerial conference entitled, "Rule of Law - Cornerstone of Development" will take place on the sidelines of the Justice and Home Affairs Council in Brussels.
Organised by France and Germany with the support of the European Commission, it will help to launch the EU initiative to reinforce the rule of law in Central Asia, which is part of the EU's strategy for Central Asia, adopted by the European Council in June 2007, and efforts of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union to give a new stimulus to its implementation.
The first part of this conference, which will be attended by justice ministers from Central Asia, will bring together European and Central Asian experts who will share their experiences and expertise on implementing legislative, juidicial and administrative reforms.
The second part of the conference will be chaired by Rachida Dati, the French justice minister, accompanied by Brigitte Zypries, the German justice minister, Jacques Barrot, Vice-President of the European Commission, and Pierre Morel, the EU Special Representative for Central Asia. The session will also be attended by justice ministers from Europe and Central Asia and will be an opportunity to review the perspectives for cooperation and signal the EU and Central Asian countries' commitment to pursuing the implementation of the EU initiative to strengthen the rule of law in Central Asia.
