- On: 01.12.2008
- In: Tunis (Tunisia), Hotel Karthago Palace
This seminar, which was jointly organised by the embassy of France in Tunis, in the context of France's current presidency of the Council of the European Union, the European Commission delegation in Tunis and the magazine "Economiste Magrébin", focused on the next stages in implementing the economic aspects of the association agreement, which relate to agriculture, investment and services.
In the continuation of tariff dismantling completed on 1 January 2008, the negotiations begun on the liberalisation of investment, services and agriculture were an opportunity for Tunisia to consolidate its progress and become the first EU partner to create a free trade area by 2010, highly attractive to investors.
Organised around three panels, the debates examined the challenges and opportunities presented by this new stage in economic relations between Tunisia and the European Union as well as negotiation prospects.
Some 300 participants, economic and institutional actors such as Abdessalem Mansour, Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources, Mohamed Nouri Jouini, Minister of Development and International Cooperation, and Chokri Mamoghli, Secretary of State for Trade, took part in the debates as well as Hugues Mingarelli, Deputy Director-General for External Relations of the European Commission and several Tunisian and European executives.
This event benefited from the support of the EU Member States' embassies and the Euro-Tunisian chambers of commerce.
