Statement by the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on Nigeria

The Presidency of the Council of the European Union condemns the sectarian violence, on the margins of a local election, on Friday and Saturday in Jos, in Nigeria’s Plateau State that cost the lives of several hundreds of people and injured many others.
It is closely following developments in the situation and calls on the sense of responsibility of the parties involved, who must do everything in their power to restore the calmer climate needed for the proper functioning of political debate.
