A few indications
Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875), and the theologian and philosopher Søren Kierkegaard (1813-1855) are Denmark’s greatest literary figures.
Danish culture was particularly lively in the second half of the 19th century. More recently, Karen Blixen (1885-1962) scored a worldwide success with Out of Africa. The most famous movie maker is Carl Dreyer (1889-1968), whose the Passion of Joan of Arc is a classic.
The musician Carl Nielsen has composed more than one hundred works. Finally, the Royal Danish Ballet has an established reputation.
Denmark now scores on the international scene in the field of design, in which the sober and streamlined forms of the Danish creators have won a large public, in contemporary cinema, which is demanding and provocative, with Lars Von Trier, and in contemporary art, in particular with Olafur Eliasson.
