Programmes from Radio France

An overview of 20 concerts, specially designed by France Musique, testifies to the vitality of European music, from baroque to classical, via contemporary music. Jazz, rock, pop and electronic music are filling other Radio France stations during a selection of concerts planned from September.

Four concerts take place in July and are being broadcast, live or recorded, from the festivals of Aix-en-Provence and Montpellier, as well as the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris.

• In August:

August 21st, 2008, at the Sablé festival: Counter-tenor Philippe Jaroussky performs "from Prague to Dresden" by Jan Dismas Zelenka

• In September:

On September 11th at 8pm live on France Musique, at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris: Rudolf Buchbinder on the piano and the Dresden Statskapelle conducted by Fabio Luisi performs Straus's Don Juan, Concerto for Piano n 3 in C minor by Beethoven and Symphony n 4 in E minor by Brahms

On September 16th, at Amiens cathedral, the Orphénica Lyra ensemble conducted by José Miguel Moreno perform Musique Au Temps Du Siège De Grenade (Music During the Seige of Grenada) by Pisador, Ortiz and Narvaez. Broadcast September 30th, 2008.

On September 21st, 2008, at Ambronay abbey, the 18th-century orchestra conducted by Frank Brüggen combines Rameau and Chopin in Rêves d'Ailleurs (Dreams of Elsewhere). Broadcast October 2nd, 2008, at 2.30pm.

On September 28th, 2008, at the Musica festival, Wolfgang Mitterer on the organ performs Ligeti and Bach.

• In October:

On October 5th, at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris: the WDR symphony orchestra from Cologne conducted by Brad Lubman performs Gérard Pesson, Bernd-Alois Zimmermann and Iannis Xenakis. Broadcast October 13th at 8pm.

October 7th, at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris: the Cologne symphony orchestra accompanied on piano by Sebastian Krauer performs Haydn and Mozart under the baton of Christian Ludwig. Broadcast October 16th at 2.30pm.

From October 10th to October 19th, at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse: the national orchestra of the Capitole choir and the Capitole choir school, conducted by Pinchas Steinber with set design by Nicolas Joel, perform Enesco's Œdipe (Oedipus).

From October 11th to November 2nd: at Paris national opera house, the Opéra orchestra and choir led by the baton of Jiri Belohlávek play Smetana's La fiancée vendue (The Sold Fiancée). Broadcast November 8th at 7.30pm.

On October 20th at 8pm, live from the Salle Pleyel in Paris: the Luxembourg philharmonic orchestra, Aldo Ciccolini on piano, conducted by Emmanuel Krivine, perform Liszt Nuages Gris and Unstern, St Sans's Piano Concerto No 5, Ravel's Une barque sur l'océan (A Boat on the Ocean), Debussy's Images. Broadcast live.

October 23rd at 8pm, live at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris: the French national orchestra with Deszö Ranki on piano combine Brahms and Bartok conducted by Daniele Gatti. Broadcast live.

• In November:

On November 14th at 8pm, at the Salle Pleyel in Paris: Sandrine Piau, soprano, Marie-Claude Chappuis, alto, Jörg Dürmüller, tenor, Klaus Mertens, bass and the Amsterdam baroque orchestra perform Bach's Mass in C Minor under the baton of Ton Koopman. Broadcast live.

On November 20th at 8pm, live from the Cité de la Musique: Mozart: Piano concertos KV 488 and 491. Stravinsky: Apollo Musagete
Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Mitsuko Uchida (piano and conductor).
Mitsuko Uchida is the most Viennese of Japanese pianists. SHe has chosen a symbolic score from Stravinsky's Neoclassical period, Apollo Musagete, one of its author's most admirably constructed refinements. Broadcast live.

• In December:

On December 16th at the European Parliment in Strasbourg.
Choirs from all over Europe will be singing Berlioz under the baton of Claire Gibault at the Palais de la Musique in Strasbourg for an exceptional symphonic concert.

On December 16th. "Carrefour de L'Odéon", presented by Frédéric Lodéon.
Concert broadcast on December 31st on France Inter.

On October 19th at 8pm, live from the Salle Pleyel:
Salonen: Concerto for piano
Sibelius: Légendes de Lemminkäinen (the Lemminkäinen Suite).
Yefim Bronfman (piano), the Radio France philharmonic orchestra, Mikko Franck.
Broadcast live.

December 22nd at 8pm, live from the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées.
Schumann: Symphonies n 3 and 4
Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Simon Rattle.
Simon Rattle revisits Schumann on period instruments, constructing an eloquent series, season after season.

On December 22nd, recorded at the Théâtre du Chatelet.
