Orly and Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airportsIllmars Blumbergs was born in Riga in Latvia in 1943. After his studies in painting and applied art he became interested in various fields such as painting, scenography, posters, installations, graphic art, illustration, film production and photography. Especially attracted by posters, he is the creator of over fifty for theatre, the majority of them created for shows where he also designed the sets. The subjects of his other creations have been music and cinema festivals or exhibitions. His work is characterised by an interaction of varied forms. The general composition consists of large spaces contrasted by the use of thin lines. Colour conveys the principle idea and in each creation, the use of drawings or hand written letters are found which make reference to the living being.
Illmars Blumbers has produced many exhibitions, most recently in Estonia, Latvia, Italy and France.
