Giant on-line interactive frieze
A giant interactive frieze containing some300 videos on the artists, creators, objects, places or cultural events in each of the 27 countries of the European Union

Starting on 1 July 2008.
The National Audiovisual Institute (INA) and Culturesfrance are creating an audiovisual internet site on the cultures of Europe. It features a large interactive frieze containing some 300 videos on the artists, creators, objects, places or significant cultural events that have marked each of the 27 European Union countries over the last fifty years.
Using French television archives, this site shows the encounters between French culture and the cultures of the other member countries, as well as the emergence of a "European culture".
All forms of art and of culture are represented here: architecture, the entertainment arts, plastic arts, comic strips, cinema, urban cultures, cultural events, literature, music, heritage, photography, as well as the art of living, fashion and design. In a nutshell, everything that contributes to developing a European culture.
Internet users have several innovative ways to get the videos:
• an interactive chronological frieze;
• maps for each country;
• a simple and advanced search engine.
Each video is presented with an explanatory note, its historical and artistic context and a full transcript. . Users can also browse the videos by themes..
This site is on-line, free of charge, since 1 July 2008.
