The theatre is a cultural cement for Europe

A major international symposium of key players from the worlds of theatre and education

The "Theatre, cement of Europe" brings together key aspects implemented by the General Inspectorate for the Theatre for the year 2008, declared "European Year of intercultural dialogue" by the Council of Europe.
This theme will be expressed through a major event, on July 4 and 5, 2008: an international symposium hosted by Paris' Théâtre de la Ville.
This will be preceded by an on-line agenda of the multiple manifestations of intercultural theatrical life, on Educnet/Theatre
It will be followed by the annual "Lycéens en Avignon" event, with "Europe and interculturality" as this year's theme.
Open to all, this important meeting addresses a threefold need:
• to increase the exposure - through a world-renowned venue, located in the very heart of Paris - of what students have to say about the concept of interculturality and the dialogue between peoples, thus increasing awareness of the high quality of theatrical teaching in French schools
• to give a stronger voice to major defenders of the theatre's international dimension, in France and in Europe today
• to help to broaden the literary heritage taught in classes today, in France and in Europe.

The evening of July 4 and day of July 5 will be animated with various artistic interventions offered by pupils.
In order to prepare, accompany and prolong the July meetings, the Theatre section of the Educnet website (www2.educnet.education.fr/theatre) will host a specific area dedicated to the "Dialogue of the Europhores". All sorts of artistic and educational testimonials concerning the practice of theatre in Europe, and the international exchanges it fosters, any projects completed or in progress, are called upon to express themselves on line.

Opening of the online space: June 2008.
