Aurillac and the Cantal department

For 4 days in August, the Festival international de théâtre de rue d'Aurillac opens the city and its surroundings up to street performers and some 100 000 spectators.

This year, two European partnerships present their productions. The Le Phun theatre company (France) and Kretakör (directors from Hungary) are putting on “Père courage” (Father Courage), the second half of a play which is being staged half in Hungary and half in France. The Betontanc theatre company (Slovenia) and Matej Andraž Vogrinèiè (Slovenia) are coming to Aurillac with their performance of "Course à l’amour" (Run for Love)

Stream from the festival, Les Préalables welcomes a selection of official companies on the territory of the Cantal department.

Within the framework of the European cultural Season, the Festival this year will organise an initial roving University, which will group performers from the 27 countries of the European Union on August 17-19.
This roving University will invite street theatre performers, plastic artists, writers, cineastes, philosophers, and cultural and media figures.

The Festival on its part will group performers from the following countries: Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Italy, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania, Czech Republic.

The roving University will arrange numerous workshops with the help of the companies Kumulus, Opéra Pagaï and Ronan Tablantec. Those workshops will stimulate discussions about the role of art in the public space. By way of the notion of European territory, the topics of the urban and rural fabric, of borders and population flows, and of the diversity of cultures and of languages will be taken up. The objective: observe how street theatre supports freedom of expression and how art is roughing out the contours of questions and shared values everywhere in Europe.
