Several events designed specifically to celebrate the European Day of Languages will take place in squares, gardens and on the bridges of Paris in order to inspire the public to become actively involved in languages.

From the morning of September 26th, thousands of words and phrases in every language will appear around the city in the form of banners and balloons.
In the Place de la Sorbonne, sound systems will play European songs and hits which, by crossing borders, become popular reference points shared by everyone.
Finally, as night falls, illuminated words in every language chosen by the general public will be written and projected directly onto the façades of symbolic buildings all along the Seine by an artists' collective.

On the fringes of the Languages Festival, on the same day at the Sorbonne, "les États généraux du multilinguisme" will take place, bringing together nearly 1000 European debaters to give a new boost to the policy of multilinguism in Europe.

The European Day of Languages has been organized this year in France as part of the French Presidency of the European Union by the French ministries for foreign and European affairs, national education, higher education and culture and communications, in collaboration with the Secretariat-General for the French Presidency of the European Union and with the support of the European Commission.
