From October 4th, 2008, to January 4th, 2009Practical
Château of the Dukes of Brittany - Nantes history museumCovering several centuries, the exhibition "Miroir, mon beau miroir…" (Mirror, mirror, on the wall…) offers an exhibition rich in questions which invites visitors to decipher the way in which political power is staged and how an official image is constructed: from holy dress to portraits of presidents of the Republic, via the bust of Marianne, the adopted figurehead of the Republic, and caricature.
The exhibition, which benefits from prestigious loans, assembles paintings, engravings, objects, photographs, posters, etc. the finest of which, without question, are the royal portraits and the allegories of the Republic.
With this presentation which begins on October 4th, the 50th anniversary of the Fifth Republic, the Nantes history museum is aiming to strengthen its role as a museum of the people by inviting the public to decipher images and messages which provide a better understanding of modern-day society.
Exhibition curator: Krystel Gualdé, head of Conservation at the Château of the Dukes of Brittany - Nantes history museum.
