The last installment of a trilogy which began in 2002 when the Lionel brothers and Stéphane Belmondo suggested bringing together jazz and traditional musicians around early 20th-century French composers, Lili Boulanger, Maurice Duruflé, Gabriel Fauré and Maurice Ravel. The project's crowning achievement was a very rewarding album called "L'Hymne au Soleil" (Hymn to the Sun).
The Belmondo brothers are performing with the great Latvian choir of 100 choristers; the first performance of this work was given on April 13th, 2007, in Riga.
This new arrangement for choir, chamber orchestra and percussion has been organized in two parts. The first is based around the works of Lili Boulanger, Gabriel Fauré, Maurice Ravel and Francis Poulenc. The second is dedicated to the liturgical organ and some major composers from the French school: Charles Tournemire, Marcel Dupré, Gaston Litaize, Olivier Messiaen, Lionel Belmondo and Yusef Lateef. The State Choir Latvia is the ideal partner for this initiative.
